  • more an outgrowth of brain
  • ipsilateral lesion symptoms

Oculomotor

Trochlear

  • read or go down stairs
  • tilt head to opposite side to compensate. Other eye works normal

Trigeminal

  • bilateral blink

Abducens

Facial

  • UMN from both sides to forehead but only one side to lower face
  • pt with UMN lesion affecting facial nerve maintain forehead movement

  • LMN lesion completely losses both sides

  • unable to tolerate sounds because so loud

  • facial droop in half of face

Vestibularcochlear

  • rarely done
  • Doll's eyes: eyes move with head turn

  • almost never done

  • warm water side push eye ball away

Glossopharyngeal

Vagus

  • aortic dissection: enlarged aorta

  • CN 12 pushes tongue to midline
