  • subcortical in between cortex and brainstem

Thalamus

  • all sensory goes through it to the brain

  • L for light

  • only place where all sensory comes together
  • after resolve, severe pain

Hypothalamus

  • Hypo: smaller or below

  • sympathetic starts in hypothalamus, goes down spinal cord

  • anterior: dilates to cool; unable to dilate = unable to cool
  • supraoptic: ADH; paraventricular: oxytocin

Fever

  • PGE2 leads to increased set point

Hormones

Limbic

  • thalamus not part of limbic system

  • cannot make new memories

Wernicke Korsakoff

  • very confused
  • korsakoff: more chronic
