19 CNS Aneurysm


Overview

  • saccular: outgrowth like a sac from vessel wall, causes subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • lacunar stroke: obstruction of small vessels, rupture = charcot

Rupture

  • xanthochromia: yellow discoloration of CSF
  • no focal deficits: bleeding not in lobes of brain (no weakness, sensory, motor problems)

Berry Aneurysm

  • Acomm most common
  • Pcomm second most common

AComm

  • if very large and unruptured can cause symptoms

PComm

  • if aneurysm, it will compress constrictors and dilate the pupil

Charcot Bouchard

  • ICH: intracerebral hemorrhage
