21 Malabsorption

  • iron absorbed in duodenum

  • nerve damage from blood sugar
  • diabetes with new onset diarrhea

  • lactulose: sugar molecule not absorbed, laxative, osmotic agent. Bacteria metabolized to hydrogen. Measure hydrogen

Diagnosis

  • nl: rise in D xylose
  • nl test in lactose intolerance
