acute liver failure differs from acute liver injury


The 3 criteria for acute liver failure are evidence of hepatic injury (eg, elevated aminotransferases), encephalopathy, and INR ≥1.5.

  • differentiate from acute liver injury, which do not have these:
    • synthetic dysfunction
    • encephalopathy
    • previously healthy livers
    • can last up to 6 months time1
