albumin does not have mortality benefit over crystalloid fluids

  • SAFE study showed there is no mortality difference between given albumin vs NS in ICU patients
    • subgroup analysis showed higher mortality for trauma patients with head injury for albumin. 1
  • Another study in 2014 found albumin group had lower heart rate and higher MAP but no mortality difference. 2
  • ALBICS trial found no difference in outcome of albumin vs LR for patients undergoing cardiac surgery. 3
