Anterior mediastinum is basically everything anterior to the heart and big vessels.
The middle mediastinum contains the heart, major blood vessels, phrenic and upper vagus nerves, trachea and main bronchi, and lymph nodes.
Posterior mediastinum is everything posterior to the heart:
