Cell Cycle

  • G1: first growth phase
  • S: synthesize DNA
  • M: mitosis
  • G0: Quiescent phase
  • M: mitosis (dividing) and I: interphase (not dividing)

  • growth factor: grow in size
  • mitogen: grow by division

  • mitotic spindle: fibers and microtubules

  • sister chromatids pulled to opposite ends

Cell Cycle Control

  • within M phase
  • first checkpoint very important: decision to commit growth

  • cyclin D/CDK4 and 6, and cyclin E/CDK2
  • RB and DNA damage checkpoint

  • P53 easily falls apart, unless DNA damage, then easily stabilized and induce p21
