CRRT modes and indications

  • CVVH: depends on pressure between two sides, flow of fluid, pore size of membrane, then drag of solute with it
  • CVVHD: diffusive. Gradient between two sides
  • HDF: both solvent drag and diffusion.

  • only for fluid removal
  • dependent on pressures
  • A pump creates negative pressure
  • doesn’t really do it here

  • substitution: replacement fluid
  • pump creates negative pressure
  • solute and fluid both dragged across membrane

  • counter current dialysate going opposite direction as blood flow. Has gradient and diffusion
  • good for smaller molecules
  • can add therapy fluid to create CVVHDF

  • uremia: CVVHD
  • fluid + solute: CVVH
  • fluid: SCUF
