Thickened Liquid Diet

  • evidence from one study from video fluorscopy
  • no evidence of clinical aspiration improvement

More harm:

  • higher rates of dehydration, UTI
  • worse quality of life
  • only benefit 5-7 days after stroke in decrease clinical aspiration with thickened liquid
  • dementia patient forget how to perform daily functions (apraxia)
  • forget how to swallow, doesn't improve with therapy
  • watch patient swallow: up right, water intake
