Oxygen content is the difference between arterial and venous oxygen. The equation can be rewritten as follows²:

V_{O_2}\space = CO\times\space (C_{aO_2}- C_{vO_2})

O_2\space Content = 1.39\times Hgb\times \%Sat +0.003\times P_aO_2
