right heart cath RHC can evaluate for shunt and cardiac output for pulmonary hypertension


Thermodilution (injecting of fluid bolus in RA and measuring temperature change in the PA) can be used to calculate cardiac output.

RHC can also be used to evaluate left to right shunting by obtaining blood samples and measuring O2 saturation in all vena cava and multiple chambers of the heart. This is often known as "oximetry run."

In ASD, oxygen saturation goes up in RA and in VSD in RV. Examples of ASD:
