Use heart rate and urine output as initial assessment of volume loss. Patients with tachycardia and decreased urine output have at least 30% blood loss and are labelled as Class III or IV acute hemorrhage. They may have confusion and decreased pulse pressure. Consider replace with blood products besides volume expansion.
