extramedullary hematopoiesis happens often in liver spleen and paraspinal


  • extramedullary hematopoiesis is production of blood outside marrow
  • common location includes liver, spleen
  • occasional will have paraspinal involvement in the chest
  • CT shows hypo vascular soft tissue mass and fat attenuation without calcium
  • biopsy can result in bleeding and should be approached with caution. 1 2
