using arterial waveform to estimate stroke volume

  • assumptions for this to be used
    • flow of blood into artery must equal outflow of blood
    • contractility of vessel relates to amount of blood flows through the vessel
  • systole: inflow of blood expands artery and is greater than outflow
  • diastole: vessel contracts. Outflow of blood is greater
  • Area under curve: represents systole and diastole. Sum can be used to estimate stroke volume1
