In the large, multicenter randomized DEVICE trial, when compared with direct laryngoscopy, video laryngoscopy resulted in higher rates of successful intubation on the first attempt. However, despite this improved first-pass success, rates of complications, including severe hypoxemia, were similar in patients who underwent intubation with video laryngoscopy compared with direct laryngoscopy (choice A is incorrect). ¹
