aspirin can be used for prophylaxis after treatment of unprovoked recurrent DVT

Aspirin is insufficient therapy for acute DVT. Of note, following the completion of a conventional course of anticoagulation for the treatment of acute unprovoked DVT, the use of aspirin has been demonstrated to significantly reduce the rate of recurrent DVT versus placebo or no treatment. Because this patient's DVT appears provoked, aspirin would have no treatment role either initially or after he has completed a course of anticoagulation.1
