Use serotonin release assay to determine HIT in indeterminate HIT antibody test

Functional assay tests ability of PF4 antibody to bind and activate platelets than just presence of antibody, makin gthis a better test for confirming or excluding diagnosis of HIT. They are more labor intensive to obtain.

SRA test is generally used when optical density (OD) for HIT antibody test is indeterminate (0.6-1.99)

Negative serotonin release assay means HIT is extremely unlikely. Positive assay confirms HIT.1
