propofol infusion syndrome can lead to elevated lactic acidosis

Propofol infusion syndrome (propofol infusion syndrome is associated with high dose continuous infusion) can also produce lactic acidosis, often accompanied by refractory bradycardia, ventricular dysrhythmias, rhabdomyolysis, hyperlipidemia, acute kidney injury, and cardiovascular collapse. Although this syndrome has been seen with short-term infusion of propofol, it is quite rare and more often seen with prolonged infusions. Moreover, it would be expected to elevate the lactate-pyruvate ratio.1
